Jan Domantay is the Managing Director and Principal Solicitor of Z&H Lawyers, and the founding principal of Domantay Legal. With over 15 years of legal experience in Australia, he specialises in complex matters involving commercial law, corporate governance, property transactions, family financial arrangements, estate planning, and civil and commercial dispute resolution. He has deep expertise in litigation and is committed to delivering outcome-focused legal strategies for both individual and business clients.
Jan graduated from Monash University in 2007 with a double degree in Law and Science, majoring in Psychology, and was admitted to legal practice in Victoria in 2008. He began his legal career at WorkSafe Victoria, where he prosecuted breaches of the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004. He later joined the Office of Public Prosecutions (Victoria) as a senior prosecutor, managing serious criminal matters and appearing frequently before VCAT, the Magistrates’ Court, County Court, and Supreme Court of Victoria.
In 2016, Jan founded his first law firm with a focus on providing legal solutions to small and medium-sized businesses and local communities. Through a combination of organic growth and strategic acquisitions, he has since established offices across Melbourne, Geelong, Brisbane, and Adelaide, forming a strong legal network along the eastern seaboard.
With a background in psychology and a wealth of courtroom experience, Jan brings exceptional insight into dispute resolution, negotiation, and client communication. He approaches each case from both legal and behavioural perspectives, developing pragmatic strategies that balance risk management with desired outcomes.
As Principal Solicitor of Z&H Lawyers, Jan also leads the firm’s development of structured dispute resolution systems, contributes to setting client service standards, and plays a key role in mentoring and training legal talent—laying a solid foundation for the firm’s consistency and professionalism.
Outside the law, Jan is a dedicated father of three, a passionate sports enthusiast, and an avid fan of the NBA, UFC, and AFL (particularly the Hawthorn Hawks).
